Riegelsville Recreation Board

The Riegelsville Recreation Board has had a quiet but fruitful year this year. We’ve managed to keep the park looking good, despite losing our faithful lawn maintenance person to illness. We’ve been enjoying the improvements we made to the park last year, including a new storage shed and Dirk Odhner installed new pass-through windows and countertop in the concession stand. We’re hoping to make some improvements to the concession stand’s electrical system this fall and we’ve laid plans for some repairs and improvements to the pavilion, which we’re hoping to implement in the coming year with the support of the Riegelsville Kiwanis.

Our fund raisers, including a concession stand at the Kiwanis Car Show and our annual Basket Bingo at the Riegelsville Firehouse were profitable, thanks to Sherry Masteller’s careful planning and preparation.

Our baseball program, under the leadership of Joe Evanowski, was somewhat scaled down this year, due to the fact that we had fewer kids available than in past years, but we were able to field one team, a 14 and under girls softball team which competed in the Upper Bucks Softball League. The season lasted from April to June. Our in-town team sent 4 players to the yearly All Star game.

Joe Evanowski also arranged for the Recreation Board to sponsor a Fast-Pitch pitching clinic. It was attended by players from Riegelsville as well as Williams, Palmer, Forks, Easton, Springfield, and Durham Townships.

Next year, we’re looking forward to fielding the same Softball A-team (14 and up) as well as a T-Ball team. Coach’s are needed for the possibility of a Girls B-team. It is also likely that the Silver Creek organization will have enough boys to field two “Teener” (boys 14 & under)teams in 2011. They’ve inquired about having one of those teams based out of Riegelsville.

As always, new coaches and other volunteers are needed. Try it out – – it is more rewarding and less time-consuming than you may realize.

Baseball/Softball sign-ups will be in January – – be on the lookout for flyers in the Post Office, Bank, Mueller’s General Store, and from the area schools. January registrations are needed to plan the season accordingly.

The Recreation Board continues to meet monthly on the last Tuesday of each month at the Borough Hall. Please attend – especially if you have ideas for organizing Park activities such as intramural adult softball, basketball, or even kickball. The Rec board is a voluntary organization and depends on active citizens for its vitality.

Contact either Sherry Masteller at the Borough Hall 610-749-2726, or Dirk Odhner, President 610-749-0332.
