The Museum of Indian Culture presents The Way of Peace: The Story of the Iroquois Confederacy<\/p>\n

June 20th @ 11:00 a.m., grade 3 to adult<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Iroquois Confederacy\u00a0was also known as the\u00a0“League of Peace and\u00a0Power”.\u00a0\u00a0Founded hundreds of years ago, the Confederacy\u00a0initially\u00a0consisted of five tribes: the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga and\u00a0Seneca, which were known as the Five Nations.\u00a0\u00a0A Sixth Nation, the Tuscarora, was added in 1722.\u00a0The\u00a0Peacemaker, who brought\u00a0The Great Law of Peace, united these warring nations to form\u00a0the\u00a0Haudenosaunee, the People of the Longhouse.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Great Law of Peace contributed to the development of the\u00a0US Constitution and our national symbolism.\u00a0\u00a0Still active among the Haudenosaunee today, it is the oldest democracy in the world, and still a source of inspiration.<\/div>\n
